Ship Diagrams - extracts from my sketchbook during the project
This project was inspired by the Arctic Convoys of the Second World War when my Grandfather served in the Royal Navy. His ship the HMS Edinburgh was en route from Murmansk, Russia to Scapa Flow, Scotland when it was torpedoed and sunk.
I collected maps of the route and diagrams of the layout of the ship and reproduced these in colour using modern technology.
I wanted to investigate the use of drawn images to convey information pictorially without words.
