This was a study which focused on mark-making and interpretation of patterns connected with domesticity and everyday fabrics, such as blankets and sheets. The blankets have been passed to me from previous generations and so the work is closely linked to personal memory and silent inheritance.
A dialogue developed between the subject of the cloths and blankets and the way I drew. This highlights the process of drawing which relies on the exchange of memory and action in a two-way process where images are first recorded in the brain and then transferred to the drawing.
Recording through myself and back to the drawing.
This work is an exploration and very much an ongoing learning process into how to record and observe the subject matter and produce drawings. What type of pencil? Which edge of the pencil? Using different marks. I am trying to achieve a subtle observation.
